The Jaded Tune

I am standing on a bridge,

Waiting in the dark,

I thought that you’d be here by now.

There’s nothing but the rain,

No footsteps on the ground,

I’m listening but there’s no sound.

Isn’t anyone trying to find me?

Won’t somebody come take me home?……………

Won’t you take me by the hand,

And take me somewhere new,

I don’t know who you are,

But I’m with you……………….

How many nights and how many days have I so wondered. Don’t we all feel alone and wish for someone to take us by the hand? Don’t we all sometimes, in the deepest of our reveries, pray for that one stranger who’ll come and be our companion in this long, cold journey?

But those were the old days when I used to dream……..the dreams of a foolish sixteen- year old. But now I have seen enough of the world to realize that this only makes for a good read, a good movie or maybe just a good song. This is not life. Forced into my shell of cynicism I can only say that such fantasies are better left on the pages of a Harlequin Romance! Life doesn’t work that way and never will. Yes, there is no dearth of people in our lives, friends, family, and so on……………but at the end of the day we are left to fend for ourselves, fight for our place in this populous world.

Strangers come and go…………and if you have found that “stranger” who’s here to stay then you might be assured that you have just experienced a miracle. Miracles do happen they say……..and am sure they happen quite frequently considering the number of people who so believe! Miracles are a gift, a boon…..to be cherished and to feel blessed. Those who believe miracles happen I’d wish for nothing but that for them.

It’s just that I don’t believe them………..I don’t believe in miracles……………Life is never a coincidence……………..everything has a reason.
