Captive Freedom

In our captive freedom,
Caressed by passing hands of whimsical sympathy
We are awakened by the afternoon haze that lulls jaded minds to sleep.

A shadow crawls across the sundial,
That follows our flight out through the bars,
As we make our way to a world hungered of presumptions and prejudice.

There’s no colour there and no faded hues,
Only a twilight that swallows the blue.
No boundaries define our movement there
The ocean dissolves the sky above and the land melts into the foaming spray.

Silence surrounds the sound of our conscience,
While stray thoughts born of our eloquent ennui
Wander through the chasms of our imagination
And emerge like sunlight through the storm clouds within.

Tempestuous peace invades our souls,
Silhoutted by the spoils of an unspoken war
We clambour through new rites of passage
In this ephemeral world.
