Night Walk

People make me so tired sometimes. So, it was a real wonder when I was walking back alone to my room from 'work' at 2 at night(don't ask me why....it's a long story), when the silence was broken by a sudden rushing sound. For a moment I stood still in the darkness trying to fathom where the sound was coming from. Let me tell you, my friends, I am a city-bred girl who's scared of everything from the slightest unexplained noise to the pitch darkness through which I was walking that night. So it was with a lot of hesitation that I stopped to find out what the noise was. When I figured it must simply be the wind making its way through the heavy canopy of the bamboo plants, I was a tad bit relieved. But no sooner had I started retracing my steps did some other noise reach my ears. This time, it was a distinctly different sound and I could not, for my life, figure out what it was. I hastened my steps and the sound seemed to follow me. A million shadows seem to follow me as I made my way.
I don't believe in 'ghosts' mind you and it never occurred to me to think in those lines. It was not even a figment of my tired mind's imagination. It was a noise I don't hear when I am in the city.

Till date, I have not been able to figure out what that noise was. I hear a different one every night, though. All I know is that it was the voice of the vociferous Nature. A voice which only few can hear, when the night falls and when people are in deep slumber.

sometimes these noises make us realise that there are some things that exist beyond the realms of any rational we humans construct.
